Q: The Future for Nature Award is intended for individuals. Why not for organisations?
A: Firstly, outstanding conservation achievements, and conservation organisations as well, often depend on leadership qualities of individuals. Secondly, the Future for Nature Foundation wants to make a difference with its limited financial means.  And a financial award often has more added value for individuals than for organisations. The winners are expected to invest their prize in a conservation project of their own choice. It is up to the winner to choose a project that is "owned" by an organisation.

Q: The Future for Nature Award is intended for individuals. Does this mean that candidates working for an organisation do not qualify?
A: Any individual can apply, regardless of their formal position or the affiliation to an organisation. However, the Award will only be issued on the basis of achievements of the individual candidates, not on the basis of the achievements of the organisation they work for. We do acknowledge that the success of a team or an organisation can be attributed to the achievement of a candidate.

Q: Why is the Award only for species protection and not for nature conservation in general.
A: Our entry to nature conservation is through species protection. The nature conservation results and impacts of species protection efforts form important criteria in the selection of the winners.

Q: Do "end of career" candidates qualify?
A: The Award aims to provide both a reward for achievements and an incentive to continue species protection work. In this respect, "end of carreer" candidates will not be excluded, but the chances of becoming an Award winner are less.

Q: You request two referee statements. What are the envisaged qualifications for referees?
A: A mimimum of two referee statements is absolutely critical for a successful application. The referees must be knowledgeable about species protection. A good scientific track and/or species protection record of the referees are criteria used by the Selection Committee. However, you only will be requested to provide referee evidence once you are selected as one of the nominees for the Award.

Q: Do I have to be working in a developing country in order to qualify for the Award?
A: No. Candidates from all over the world can qualify. However, we do anticipate a more or less even distribution of winners across various regions of the world.

Q: If my application is not successful, may I re-apply for a next round?

A: Yes.
