Golden Ark Foundation
The goal of the Golden Ark Foundation is to protect species of wild animals and plants. In pursuit of this goal, the Foundation has established the Golden Ark Award. The prize rewards and funds individuals for their internationally outstanding species protection efforts.
The Golden Ark Awards will be awarded annually during the Golden Ark Conference at Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands. A conservation master class and a sponsor market for species protection will accompany the annual conference.

New Chair of the International Selection Comittee for the Golden Ark Award: Saba Douglas-Hamilton
At the occasion of the first Golden Ark Award event, Future for Nature, Saba Douglas-Hamilton became the new Chair of the International Selection Committee for the Golden Ark Award. As such she will lead the selection process for next years' Golden Ark Awards.

Out of these ten nominees, the international Selection Committee will select three candidate winners for the Award and propose these to the Board of the Golden Ark Foundation for formal approval. The Golden Ark Award winners will receive their prize on March 14.

68 candidates from 40 countries
Up to 30 September, we received 68 Golden Ark Award applications from 40 different countries. The Board of the Golden Ark Foundation and the acting chairman of the international Selection Committee will announce the 10 nominations for the 2008 Award before the end of October 2007.

Mrs. Yolanda Kakabadse Member Selection Committe
This month, Mrs Yolanda Kakabadse joined the Selection Committee for the Golden Ark Award. Mrs Kakbadse currently is Chair of the Science and Technology Advisory Panel of the Global Environmental Facility - GEF - and Board Member of the Ford Foundation. She used to be, amongst others, President of IUCN, Minister of Environment in Ecuador, and founder of Fundacion Natura in Ecuador.

Call for candidates
A call for candidates for the Golden Ark Award 2008 will be launched in May 31th 2007. The deadline for applications is September 30th 2007. The first Golden Ark Award Conference will take place 13 and 14 March 2008 at Burgers' Zoo, Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Burgers' Zoo and TTY Sponsors
Burgers' Zoo, based at Arnhem, the Netherlands, will financially support the Golden Ark Foundation for a period of 10 years. This support enables the Foundation to annually issue the Golden Ark Award. Burgers' Zoo will also host the annual Golden Ark Award Conference.
